Lunch & Learn March issue - Covid 19 business interruption claims
2020 was dominated by concerns over Covid 19. 2021 is looking much the same, although some of us are back in the office and contemplating the Business Interruption Claims that are coming at us. We know there are “lots of them”, but just how many? How will policies respond, and which way are the court judgements running?
This session is led by Graham Peters, Acting Head of Crawford Forensic Accounting Services and Damian Lawrence, Regional Head of CFAS in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland. Although most Insurers have little practical experience to date of dealing with Covid BI claims, some Insurers have policy wordings that extend broad coverage and we have been dealing with many claims for those Insurers. The issues raised offer some hint of the problems ahead, should the current court cases pass through Appeal Courts, without reversal. We are also drawing insights from Crawford’s experience of Covid 19 Business Interruption claims from the United Kingdom where claims deferred by another appeal process, are only now finding their way to Insurers and require review.
