Sunbury earthquake: Technical Bulletin
On 28 May 2023, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred near Sunbury, Victoria, in Melbourne’s northwestern outer suburbs. The quake was widely felt throughout south-eastern Australia, including most capital and regional cities such as Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
CRD expects there will be moderate insurance claims following the event, mostly minor damage tobrittle structures, such as masonry, plasterboard and cornices. This Technical Bulletin aims to provide some initial commentary around the structural impacts and design requirements for claims assessors across the insurance industry.
